Bloomberg and CFETS expand collaboration to facilitate international investors’ participation in China’s green bond market
Shanghai– Bloomberg today announced at the 2024 Sustainable Finance Forum that the list of Chinese outstanding green bonds aligned with the China-EU Common Ground Taxonomy (“CGT”) is now available to Bloomberg Terminal users. It marks a new collaboration between Bloomberg and the China Foreign Exchange Trade System (“CFETS”) and will further facilitate cross-border sustainable investment. This new dataset will help reduce the cost and burden for investors to identify green bonds, and better enable their participation in China’s green economy transition.
Last year, the Green Finance Committee (GFC) of the China Society for Finance and Banking formed an expert group to assess and label Chinese green bonds that are aligned with the CGT. Following the inaugural list of CGT-aligned bonds issued inJuly 2023, CFETS, as the leading agency of the expert group, updates and publishes the list on a monthly basis. As of the end of April 2024, a total of 282 bonds outstanding have the CGT label.
Zhang Yi, President of CFETS, said: “Labeling China’s green bonds within the CGT is an innovative step that promotes global sustainable investment and the shift to a green economy. More efforts are needed to raise awareness among international investors. We’re excited to collaborate with Bloomberg to provide data and information on China’s green bonds, helping to facilitate the opening-up of China’s financial market.”
Patricia Torres, Global Head of Sustainable Finance Solutions at Bloomberg, said: “Bloomberg is proud to support the global sustainable financial market, providing investors with high-quality data, research, and comprehensive solutions for efficient green capital investment. China has a pivotal role in the global net-zero transition, and its green bond market’s alignment with the global market is a significant and positive outcome.”
